Mount Gimli
9000’
Named for the dwarf from The Lord of The Rings books by JRR Tolkien
First Ascent: 1963 by Mrs H Butling, R Deane, M Stewart, and P Williams via the East Ridge
Gimli was my first real mountain-climb. The South Ridge is an absolute classic. A stout 5.9 begins with a chimney that shuts a lot of people down. When we tried to climb it, the people in front of us got stuck for over an hour, so we ended up rerouting up the South Face. Still super fun. I could go back for this climb every year.
Most popular climb: SE Ridge 5.9
Acrylic on wood: 36" x 48"
